Programmers without english

programmers-english

This is a real life funny story which happen to me a few months ago. Once our company director decided to employ new programmers and my task was to make little test.

I wrote one which idea was to implement survey into an english open source CMS (Content Management System) in PHP language. This work was given to five candidates whose had to return code within a week. After three days two of programmers return survey integrated into CMS project homepage. Firstly I thought it was some stupid fun, but programmers wanted to pay for this. Of course our company denied to pay for implementing survey system into CMS project homepage because task was to implement survey system into CMS framework, of course not to homepage :-).

I asked programmers why they done this and they answered that they didn't understand english. These people was idiots. Because programmers who does not understand documentation are stupid idiots. I know I am not best in written english but I still understand documentation without any problems. This is my reason why I prefer to write articles about programming and Linux in english. I just think that everybody with good programming skills and experience should understand english language fluently.

Oh, it's true that you aren't good in written English. There are some beginners mistakes :) But don't care, it's OK, I understood :)

If you understood it's just ok. in fact I used to have a lot of problems in english and on my high school english teacher told me that with my English I should be worker.

Fortunately I have paid language school and this year I've improved my english. I thing now I can talk and write much better than I used to.

Well, I'd recommend to you to improve your Czech language first, and after that you should be messing up with English. You look very stupid when you're publishing things like this without a proofreading.

2Andyk: Read you blog first before you write anything about my czech knowledge. You write czech sentences organizes as english sentences.

ooops...
i am no good english writer but i have to admit that it can be even worse... in fact, i am unable to focus on the meaning of this article, your mistakes are concentration killers.

i guess that your sudden switch to english has a clear cause - you are going to copy you-know-who even more apparently in order to get a higher visit rate. Right?

"These people was idiots. Because programmers who does not understand documentation are stupid idiots." => *were* - plural; *does* => *do* - does is just for the third person of singular. There are a few more mistakes.

I'm not very good in written English, I prefer speaking, because it's just easier :)

But I also think, that this publishing in English articles can be helpful, because other people can tell you about your weaknesses.

About the programmers, I think, that everyone, who uses his PC for any kind of work (not meaning secretaries), they have to know at least basics of English, because there are tons of stuff on the internet in *English*. For example documentaries, everything in English. Have you ever found a complete guide to (for example) CSS corners. You can find a perfect page on incutio, whole in English.

Just few examples why (even the youngest) should learn English.

As I said, my English is not the best, but what do you want from a 15 year old lame :o)

2markon: well, maybe I do. But are they written incorrectly? I wouldn't say so. I've spent almost nine months in the US and I still can write in Czech very well. Have you ever been anywhere abroad just by yourself for that long? You probably haven't. It must suck when you know two languages, but none of them very well.

2Andyk: The true is that I know even more than two languages. For example I know a lot of programming languages. And you? I know marketing strategies, theories of colors a lto of things and now I am going to learn Spanish.

You have to understand that many people whose know foreign languages doesn't know nothing more. If I've not learnt computer theory maybe I could improve my languages skills.

Hi, I don't know only Czech and English, but I also know German, and I've learned a little bit of the roots of Latin last year. I know PHP on the basis where I can make enough money, I know CSS and XHTML, I know Visual Basic, etc.

It's true I know nothing about colors. Hm, colors.

It's great you know a lot about marketing strategies, but have you ever used them? You work in some company wher e you're in charge of the computer network, does this position allow you to use your marketing skills?

I'm 16 and I just got back from my flight from Louisville, KY. I should go to bed, relax a little bit, and then come tomorrow again. I'm looking forward to your colored answer:)

2Andyk: I use marketing strategies all the time, when you're looking for good-paid job, it's marketing and you're product.

Also SEO and web development is mainly about marketing strategy. This blog has marketing strategy.

I believe that you know a little about PHP, but I know a lot about PHP, Linux and etc. I am also skilled in electronic and networking. And for your information I've never need to use other language than English (of course czech), but maybe if I learn spanish I'll find the way how to use it.

But this blog'll get improved. I hope...
